Walking along the Ramblas and enjoying the views of the river is certainly one of the must-do attractions of the city. The main beach in Montevideo is the “Beach of Pocitos“.

It was opened in 1.856 and designed by the Italian architect Carlo Zucchi. In 1.998, the government of Montevideo initiated a great reconstruction of the theater, being completed in 2.004.

Fortress General Artigas is a fortress overlooking the Bay of Montevideo.

It has a dominant position in the Hill of Montevideo with its altitude of 134 meters above sea level in the sea.

It was the last Spanish fort built in Uruguay. It houses the Military Museum from 1.916.

Travel Itinerary: 2 days in Montevideo

Day 1 in Montevideo

On the first day in Montevideo take the opportunity to explore the old center of the city. Start by visiting Plaza Independencia, where important buildings like the Salvo Palace and the beautiful Solis Theater are located.

Go to Mercado del Puerto and try the famous drink “medio y medio“.

For soccer lovers, an attraction not to be missed is the Estadio Centenario, located 6 km from Mercado del Puerto. The stadium houses the Soccer Museum.

End the day by watching the sunset in one of the city’s “Ramblas“.
